How to Play
Correctly pick the Q3 Qualifying Pole Position, according to the official results published by the FIA, and you will receive 5 points (this point allocation is specific to our pool only). To clarify, if a driver qualifies on Pole but receives a grid penalty for whatever reason and is still officially listed as winner of pole position by the FIA, your pick will score points.
Correctly pick the Top 10 Finishing Positions, according to the official results published by the FIA, and you will receive the same points awarded as per the FIA rules (i.e., 25 points for first place, 18 points for second place, etc, down to 1 point for tenth place – see table above).
Correctly pick the Fastest Lap of Sunday’s race, according to the official results published by the FIA, and receive 1 point if the driver finishes in the Top 10 (per the FIA’s Fastest Lap criteria).
For weekends where there is a Sprint race, you must correctly pick the Top 8 Finishing Positions, according to the official results published by the FIA, and you will receive the same points awarded as per the FIA rules (i.e., 8 points for first place, 7 points for second place, etc., down to 1 point for eighth place – see table above).
The Player with the most points at the end of the F1 Season will take the victory.
Tiebreaker: Whoever had the most correct picks for 1st place over the entire season (then 2nd place, then 3rd place, etc...) will be determined to be Champion.
Player Picks and Deadlines
All picks must be submitted before the start of Practice 1 (P1) of a scheduled race weekend; this is the deadline for new player picks. The Pool Master will indicate via email exactly when picks are due in either Eastern Standard Time or Daylight Savings Time in Ontario, whichever is applicable at that time of year.
The Pool Master will send out the picksheet reminder email at least two days before the P1 deadline, indicating that the Pool Master’s picks have been submitted to Jotform (the application used for taking a Player’s picks and then submitting them to the Pool Master via email so they can take that data and import into the Excel template).
When Player picks are made and submitted to Jotform, the pick submission is time-stamped. Players will be able to determine that the Pool Master has submitted their picks before seeing any of the other players’ picks.
The Pool Master will no longer submit their picks for all Pool Players to see before each Player makes their picks – the time stamp on the picksheet email indicating that the Pool Master has submitted their picks to Jotform will be confirmed when the Player Picks email is sent out after P1 with the inclusion of a print screen showing when Jotform received each Player’s picks (see example below).
The above print screen is from the Jotform Inbox and shows how each Player’s picks are time-stamped and in which order that they were received in the Inbox, also revealing which Players did not submit picks through the Jotform application. Selecting each Player’s name in the left-hand column pulls up a new window that reveals their time-stamp and their picks (not shown in this print screen – only showing Kevin’s picks as an example). By showing the Pool Players this printscreen when the Pool Master sends out the Player Picks email after P1, this will prove that the Pool Master submitted first and only once, thereby giving Pool Players confidence that the Pool Master is not gaining any advantage from viewing Player’s Picks (when they check each one for duplicate choices or other missing info in an effort to correct Player’s picks before P1).
This change is required to provide some fairness to the Pool Master to make their picks without other Players taking advantage. Recall that all Players can resubmit their picks anytime up to the last minute before the start of P1 (e.g., news of engine penalties or driver changes before P1, etc), but the Pool Master cannot change their original picks once submitted, which is a disadvantage. The Pool Master having to show their picks to all Players before each Player submits theirs is an excessive disadvantage, especially where crowning a new Champ is in play. Using the Jotform inbox receipt time stamps to ensure that all Players are confident that the Pool Master is not gaining any advantage by running the Pool is the best way to solve the issues. If you submit your picks early before the Pool Master has submitted their picks, rest assured that the Pool Master will not look at anyone’s picks before the Pool Master has submitted theirs – in the best spirit of the competition, the Pool Master will always make their picks before reviewing each Player’s picks for errors or duplicates etc.
Each Player will submit their picksheet by using the link on the Picks page. Ensure that you pick the correct Race and Player name in the form. The picksheet form for each race will track the date and time of each Player’s picks submitted to Jotform, and an email will be sent to you for your records. You can make picks ahead of time if you are away on vacation; just ensure that you pick the correct race on the form.
If you miss the deadline to submit your picks before P1, your previous race weekend picks will be used (including the regular Sunday race and Sprint race if available).
If you miss the deadline to submit your picks before P1 for the first race weekend of the season, no points will be awarded.
If you miss the deadline to submit your picks before P1 for the first Sprint Race weekend, no points will be awarded for the Sprint Race results, but your previous race weekend picks will be used for Sunday’s race.
You cannot pick the same driver more than once in the Top 10 Finishing Positions for Sunday’s race or the Top 8 Finishing Positions for the Sprint race; this is to avoid an unfair advantage by picking the same driver for say the top 3 to 5 finishing positions in order to guarantee scoring points. There are no restrictions with picking the same driver for Q3 Qualifying Pole Position and Fastest Lap of Sunday’s race (i.e., you can pick the same driver to qualify on pole in Q3, finish in 1st place for the Sprint Race, finish in 1st place for Sunday’s Race and secure the Fastest Lap). If you accidentally pick the same driver more than once, and the Pool Master is not able to intervene before the P1 deadline, your highest finishing pick will count and subsequent duplicate driver pick(s) will become “No pick” to avoid any unfair advantages.
If you want to change your picks before the deadline for any reason, just resubmit your picks using the picksheet form and the latest submission will apply. If a regular driver becomes unavailable for the race before P1 starts, select (Replacement Driver) and then enter the name of your pick in the Optional Notes section at the bottom of the form, because replacement driver names will not be available in the picksheet form.
Player picks will be available on the website after P1 and before Qualifying starts (providing no delays are encountered by the Pool Master) and you will receive an email notification when Player picks are available for viewing on the website.
Race & Pool Results
The Pool Master will update the pool with the race results only after the official FIA documents are posted on their website. A PDF copy of these documents will be sent to each Player for your records. Any changes to the official FIA results that occur days, weeks or months later due to a protest, investigation and/or disqualification will result in the pool being revised to match exactly what points have been officially awarded by the FIA for each race.
The Prize for the Winner
The winner will be the Player with the most points accumulated over the current F1 Season and will become known as "Champion" and all Players must refer to them verbally and in writing by the name "Champ" from that point forward until the end of the next F1 Season, when a new Champion is crowned. They will appear as “Champ” in the pool standings and race tables.
And Remember...
Have fun and enjoy!
Cheers!
